CONTEMPLATE THE LIGHT
Contemplate the Light is the working title of an art project exploring questions of grief, pain, confusion, and the reality of being human alongside the person of Jesus.
I have begun to develop 14 paintings based on the Stations of the Cross and collaborating with trusted friends on poetry and music to accompany them. My hope is to share this project in its fullness for Lent and Holy Week 2025. The dream set-up is a street level Manhattan gallery space, making this accessible for anyone interested.
I often find projects like this are housed within the walls of a church. I hold fast to the importance of dedicated sacred spaces, but I also see a need to consider Jesus in more everyday environments——where questions can really be open ended and no agenda exists beyond experiencing the art. In the Bible we see Jesus teach in the temple. More often we see him on the streets and the hillsides, telling stories and asking questions.
I believe people are curious and God will show up.
